The Importance of Voting
In the United States, many of us take things for granted when it comes to our freedoms, such as driving a car or voicing our opinion. However, along with those freedoms comes, what I feel, are responsibilities. Some responsibilities might include public service, looking out for one another, and paying our taxes. Another, that is often overlooked, especially by younger people, is voting. Voting is important because it allows us the opportunity to direct the path that our city, state, or country leads. It is important to our children and anyone else that is not eligible to vote. It is also important to live up to the right to vote set forth by our forefathers and by those that gave their lives trying to defend our freedoms. That's right, voting is a freedom and a right, but it is also a responsibility. And one that should not be taken for granted. Our votes do count. They do have an effect and they do give us the right to complain when government goes down a bad path. If you choose not to vote, then you are basically trusting someone else to dictate how you and your family will live, how much tax you will pay, and what laws you must follow. Voting allows you the right to complain when the government goes down a bad path. And it gives us that little bit of credit when things go well.
