The Homer Hairstyle Homer's zig-zag of hair & ear spell out the initials MG for Matt Groening In 1998, Time magazine selected Bart Simpson as 46th of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century, and the only fictional character to make the list. 2007 marked the 20th anniversary of The Simpsons franchise. If real, Bart would be in his 30's. Thankfully, they're animated! During this time they have won 23 Emmy Awards, 26 Annie Awards and a Peabody Award! The Simpson Name - The name Simpson means "son of a simpleton", which is the reason it was chosen. The Simpsons holds the record for most guest stars; it is also the only non-variety show to have had appearances from three former Beatles (Paul, George and Ringo). Evergreen Terrace, the street the Simpsons live on, is also the street Matt Groening grew up on in Portland, Oregon. Many of the characters in the show are named after streets in Portland, Oregon.
